THE BOAT

I have had the boat Explorer 11, purposely built in Cairns, by Cairns Custom Craft with Bird Watching and Photography in mind. There are 360deg swivel seats, carpet and a bimini cover that still provides excellent viewing for Bird Watching and Photography without interference as well as protection from heavy showers. It’s powered by a very quiet 80hp, 4 stroke Suzuki outboard motor, built for stability, comfort and safety.

FAQ

Do we have to book?
Yes, bookings are best.

Is it safe?
We have all the required safety equipment and our boat is bigger than the crocodiles. On the Daintree river, we don’t feed the crocodiles, so they don’t see us as a food source.

What do we need to bring?
A hat is a must, sunscreen, insect repellent (although there are few if any mosquitos on the main river), cameras, binoculars and a jacket in case it’s a bit cool to start with (especially in winter months). If you don’t have binoculars, there are some on board you can borrow. We also have very good Poncho’s onboard.

Do cruises go in all conditions?
The rain doesn’t usually stop a cruise, except on rare occasions if it is really heavy and consistent,  Wildlife viewing is surprisingly good if it is slightly raining and you will still see quite a few species, after all it is a World Heritage listed Rainforest.

What will we see on the tour?
As it is a natural habitat, it’s not100% guaranteed what you will see and every tour is different. You could see birds like the Great-billed-Herons, Black Bitterns, Azure/Sacred/Forest/Little and Buff-breasted Kingfishers(during the right seasons) as well as Papuan Frogmouths, Egrets, Raptors, and occasionally frogs, crocodiles, snakes, there are also the mangroves, rainforest and at times native plants in bloom.

Are their amenities?
There is an amenities block about 150 metres from the boat ramp, directly across from the Daintree Village Hotel.

Is there a place to eat?
We have the Crocodile Express Cafe and Daintree Village Hotel, all within 100metres from the boat ramp where you can get coffee and breakfast/lunch etc…

If tour is cancelled, can we get a refund?
Yes, if we need to cancell a tour for any reason we will give you a full refund.
